How much can I get for an old macbook?
It comes down to four things, in this order: what type it is, how old it is, whether it still works properly, and what condition the body is in. Those are the questions the form asks, and the figure it returns is the one we pay.
A newer unit in working order is worth several times a dead one of the same size. Even a unit that has stopped working entirely is worth having, because the compressor, the copper and the sheet metal are all recoverable, which is why we pay for it rather than charging to take it away.
Is it better to sell an old macbook or scrap it?
Sell it, if it runs at all. A working unit is bought for resale and priced on what someone will pay for it, which is well above scrap. A kabadiwala prices the same unit by weight, and weight is the least valuable thing about it.

What do I need to have ready?

Do you buy Intel MacBooks or only M-series?
Both. Intel machines are worth less than the M-series equivalents but still hold real value, especially 2017 and later.
My MacBook won't turn on. Will you take it?
Yes, at a reduced price. A machine that won't power on is bought largely for its parts, so expect substantially less than a working one.
Do I need the charger?
It helps and adds a little to the price, but a MacBook without its charger is still worth buying.
How do I wipe it before selling?
Sign out of iCloud, then use Erase All Content and Settings in System Settings. Do it before pickup, a machine still locked to an Apple ID can't be resold.
